When we first landed at 653 11th avenue, there wasn’t the bustle and business you see now. It was a handful of us trying to pull together both the restaurant and The Press Lounge, our roof bar and a whole lot of construction workers. On the roof, there was a small swimming pool that the hotel didn’t want. And then, as these things tend to go, somewhere along the way there was a conversation that went like this:
“Are we going to use it for something?”
“No. I don’t think so.”
“Why don’t we make a garden out of it?”
“Okay.”
And so goes the story of our rooftop garden. That turn of events was two and a half years ago. And if any of you know anything about our story, this place rocks at twice the energy of most NYC restaurants during our prime season so it’s taken us a minute to pull it together.
What you’ll end up seeing in the next month, is a terrace garden sunken below the crazy winds off the Hudson with a dining table for 12 on the bottom. Cool, huh?
And to let you know we’re for real, I give you our first harvest done by our executive chef Charles Rodriguez himself.
Radishes!
We’ll be screaming from the roof tops when we’re ready to go (and what a rooftop!). Reservations will be available through our special events department. See you there!
